Hope everyone has had a restful summer and is now ready to be back to the
business of ASWA!
One of the first items of business that needs to be addressed is the Joint
National Conference to be held at the end of this month in Nashville. Mary
Mobley, Andrea Smith and I will be attending the Annual Business Meeting
and there are a couple of proposed By-Law changes that we, as your
representatives, need your recommendation on how you would like us to
vote on these issues. Copies of the proposed changes are accompanying
the newsletter; please take an opportunity to review so that we can discuss
them at our September 13th meeting.
Member retention and new member recruitment leads to the next item of
business. In order to encourage participation and recognize service to the
chapter, the board is implementing a “Member of the Year” award. Please
see the article printed elsewhere in this newsletter which outlines the
program. A chapter is only as vital as the sum of its parts, therefore it is
important to continue to recruit and obtain new members. Instead of having
only one “guest” night this year, we want to treat each meeting as a Guest
night. A first time guest will get the benefit of the member’s meal pricing and
the member host will also benefit by earning points.
Another important item is filling the open slots we still have for speakers at
our monthly dinner meetings. The Board has managed to obtain speakers
for all but February and May’s meetings. If you know of a particularly good
speaker and/or topic, please let one of your board members know. Anyone
who arranges to fill one of our two open slots will be given 10 points!
We are also looking for volunteers to be door greeters at our dinner
meetings to make sure our guests feel welcome. If interested in stepping out
of your comfort zone and doing this, let one of the board members know.
Thanks to Susan Derda for agreeing to be our greeter for September.
Remember, to bring your donation to the meeting for our Back to School
drive.
See you on the 13th
