Welcome to the scholarship website for the ASWA Tacoma Chapter.

Tacoma has been very supportive of accounting students by awarding up to 3 scholarships each year since 1977. The first scholarship was to a single recipient. Scholarship awards start at $100. The Tacoma Chapter will be providing awards as well as the National Scholarship Committee at ASWA Headquarters.

When awarding the scholarships we consider career goals, communication skills, financial needs and circumstances, academic achievement, and community involvement. It is not necessary for you to have a 4.0 grade point average to be awarded a scholarship. Local winners have had a 3.0 average.

Scholarship winners for the 2007 - 2008 academic year:

The recipients are: Laura White $2,000 - attending Pierce College,

Joyce Mums $1,500 - attending South Puget Sound Community College, and

Jonna Mertens $500 - attending University of WA, Tacoma

The raffles at our monthly meetings and the dessert auction at our Public Relations Night make these scholarships possible. Thank you all for your participation in this important service we provide to women seeking careers in our field. Many of us have heard first hand from prior recipients who are grateful; not only for the financial support, but also for the validation and encouragement they felt when supported by the women in ASWA in attaining their goals.
